Methane Reduction Project in the Italian Livestock Sector
Project Objective

This project aims to significantly reduce methane emissions from cattle farming by targeting the inhibition of enteric methanogenesis in ruminants. It focuses on implementing scientifically proven strategies that are both practical for farmers and compliant with international carbon certification standards.
The project will be certified under the Verra Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and structured as a grouped project.

Main Activities

  • Incorporation of natural / natural identical feed supplement that reduces methane production in the rumen.
  • Field application on beef and dairy farms.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) of methane reductions using recognized methodologies.
  • Technical assistance and training for participating farmers.
  • Access to financial incentives through the generation and sale of carbon credits.

Who Can Participate

We invite beef and dairy cattle farmers to take part in this initiative. Participation allows you to:

  • Adopt innovative and sustainable feeding practices
  • Contribute to climate change mitigation
  • Receive potential financial returns linked to verified emission reductions

The project is currently being developed in the following countries:

  • Uruguay – VCS 3891 – Enteric fermentation emissions’ reduction program of Uruguay
  • Italy – VCS 5465 – Enteric fermentation emissions’ reduction program of Italy
  • Spain – VCS 5658 – Enteric fermentation emissions’ reduction program of Spain

Methane Reduction Project in the Italian Livestock Sector
Project Objective

The project is led by Vetos a multidisciplinary team with extensive expertise in livestock trading worldwide, animal nutrition and climate-oriented solutions. Vetos has tested the effectiveness of Anavrin® on a global cattle herd of approximately 1,000,000 heads over a period of 11 years in various countries around the world. This research has resulted in more than 20 scientific papers confirming its benefits in increasing productivity while simultaneously reducing methane emissions.

Vetos is supported by a team of scientists, researchers, and carbon credits experts Climit and Rete Clima for the development of the carbon project

How It Works

  1. Farmers voluntarily join the project and apply certified feed strategies.
  2. Emission reductions are measured and verified according to Verra methodologies.
  3. Verified reductions are issued as carbon credits on the voluntary market.
  4. Revenues from credit sales are redistributed to participants, with a compensation scheme that may include both fixed and performance-based components.
